Breaking Eighty Reviews The FlightScope Mevo Gen2: “The Best Device in This Price Range”

Mevo Gen2

When Breaking Eighty’s Sean Ogle got his hands on the new FlightScope Mevo Gen2, he called it “one of the most interesting golf products to come out this year.” After extensive testing both indoors and outdoors, his verdict was clear: “If you’re serious about using your launch monitor as a practice tool and getting into the numbers, I think this is absolutely the best device in this price range.”

Below, we break down his review into the key takeaways:

First Impressions & Build Quality

Ogle was impressed right out of the box.

“Overall, a really nice looking unit. When it comes to the setup of the Mevo Gen2, things have definitely improved,” he said.

The Mevo Gen2’s compact size and upgraded design made it “easy to carry around and set up anywhere” – whether at the range, in a simulator, or even in a backyard net setup. He described it as “a huge step forward” compared to the original Mevo, not just in looks but also in capability.

“I think this is a really exciting product from FlightScope. It retains everything I love about the Mevo Plus, but it does it for significantly less money,” said Ogle.

Seamless Setup & Getting Started

Ogle called setting up the Mevo Gen2 “the best setup experience I’ve had with a FlightScope product yet.”

He added, “Connecting to this unit out of the box is super easy,” highlighting how quickly the device powers on and pairs with the FS Golf App.

Ogle also praised the new Streamlined Wi-Fi Mode, which allows the unit to connect to the FS Golf App while maintaining your internet connection – enabling seamless use of online features without interruption.

FS Golf App & Comprehensive Data Parameters

Central to the Mevo Gen2 experience is the FS Golf App, available for free on iOS, Android, and Windows PC.

“It’s a pro-level app that gives you unparalleled control of your data and how you like to interact with it. This is one of the major things that sets the Gen 2 apart from other similarly priced models,” said Ogle.

The Mevo Gen2 measures 18 essential ball and club data parameters across full swing, chipping, and putting, including:

  • Carry Distance

  • Roll Distance

  • Total Distance

  • Ball Speed

  • Club Speed

  • Smash Factor

  • Vertical Launch Angle

  • Horizontal Launch Angle

  • Spin Rate

  • Spin Axis

  • Apex Height

  • Flight Time

  • Lateral Landing

  • Angle of Attack

  • Shot Type

  • Launch Speed (Putting)

  • Total Distance (Putting)

  • Ball Direction (Putting)

Standout app features include:

  • Practice Session Variety: Launch full swing, chipping, putting, swing training, and listener mode sessions – plus Challenges like Long Drive and PGA Challenge — with session reviews available anytime.

  • FlightScope AR Tracer: Automatic video recording with full shot tracer and data overlay – “A huge selling point for FlightScope.”

  • Apple Watch Integration: View up to six selected data parameters in real time on your Apple Watch – “I think if you're someone who wears an Apple Watch and you're someone who's going to use this product outside at the range, I think that is a massively undervalued feature,” said Ogle.

  • Flexible Data Visualization: Toggle light/dark modes, trajectory views, 2D spin axis animations, and grouping displays.

  • Integrated Video Analysis: Overlay swing videos (recorded on your device or the Mevo’s internal camera) with tracked data and annotate with built-in drawing tools.

  • Custom Club & Trajectory View: Choose from 28 club colors, with on-screen trajectory lines adjusting based on the selected club for clear visual feedback.

  • Swing Training Tools: Track club head speed without hitting a ball — compatible with systems like TheStack and SuperSpeed Golf.

  • Compatible with All Golf Ball Types: Use standard, range, or reflective radar capture (RCT) balls for accurate indoor spin capture.

Simulation Golf

Mevo Gen2 includes lifetime access to an E6 Connect simulation bundle (iOS and PC) featuring eight world-class courses:

  • Kiawah Island – Ocean Course (SC, USA)

  • Kapalua – Plantation Course (HI, USA)

  • Torrey Pines – South Course (CA, USA)

  • Sea Island – Seaside Course (GA, USA)

  • Latrobe Country Club (PA, USA)

  • Pelican Hill Golf Club (CA, USA)

  • Chateau Whistler Golf Club (BC, Canada)

  • Valderrama Golf Club (Cádiz, Spain)

Unlike many other launch monitors and simulators that lock key features behind paywalls, Mevo Gen2 offers permanent simulation access, making it an ideal and cost-effective solution for indoor golf and home entertainment.

“One thing I have to continue to applaud FlightScope for is their lack of a subscription for their primary products. You get full access to the software and device without having to pay an annual subscription fee,” said Ogle.

Real-World Accuracy

The Mevo Gen2 uses FlightScope’s patented Fusion Tracking Technology – a unique combination of 3D Doppler radar and synchronized image processing – utilizing both radar and camera for unmatched accuracy.

Ogle praised its accuracy indoors and outdoors, testing it with an impact screen and at the driving range, where it consistently delivered reliable data.

“I've found this to be extremely accurate both indoors and outdoors,” he said.

Notably, Ogle compared it side-by-side indoors with a Trackman retailing at over £20,000:

“Everything was, if not dead on, like seven out of ten shots were pretty much dead on with what the Trackman said,” said Ogle. “All of the trajectories were dead on. Every single shot, basically the shot tracer – it did exactly what I expected it to do. Did exactly what the Trackman did.”

He also found the Mevo Gen2's short game performance to be “rock solid,” stating it accurately recognized chips and putts.

“From a chipping and a putting standpoint, I've actually found this to work really well,” said Ogle. “I was overall really pleased.”

Value for Money

At £1,099 with no subscription fees, Ogle’s verdict was clear:

“The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 is the most professional feeling launch monitor in the $1k price range. It represents an excellent value, and should only continue to get better as time goes on,” he said.

“I think at this point most of the products in that price range feel more consumer-level. This gives you a more professional experience,” said Ogle. “What you're getting here in this package for $1,200 bucks (£1,099) is pretty awesome.”

Final Verdict

Ogle summed it up simply:

“If you're using like Rapsodo, if you're using Garmin, if you're using the VoiceCaddy SC4 Pro, if you're using Swing Caddie, all of those are great products for the right people, but they all feel like consumer-level products. With Mevo Gen2, with FlightScope, you are getting a professional-level launch monitor,” said Ogle.

“I am very excited about the future of FlightScope and the future of this product. I think there's a whole lot they can do with it. They're making professional-level tools and professional-level sim software available at a much less expensive price and I love to see that.”
