Carl’s Place Review: FlightScope Mevo Gen2 is “The Most Accurate We’ve Seen Outdoors”

Carl’s Place, one of the leading names in golf simulators, recently put the new FlightScope Mevo Gen2 to the test outdoors at their driving range in Milton, Wisconsin.

To ensure accuracy, the team went all-in: they set up yardage markers across the range, had staff stationed downfield to spot shots, and used a rangefinder to lock in exact carry distances.

Their verdict?

“Based on the numbers and what we saw out of all the launch monitors we’ve tested, I think this one is the best we’ve had so far.”

That’s high praise from a team that has tested nearly every major launch monitor on the market.

Quick and Easy Setup

Carl’s Place started with the basics: setup. With no stickers required outdoors, no calibration delays, and a simple 8-foot placement behind the ball, they were quickly up and running.

“We placed the Mevo Gen2 about 8 feet behind the ball, leveled and aligned it, and it was ready to go. No metallic stickers or special balls needed outdoors – the radar and camera just worked.”

That simplicity means more time practicing and less time troubleshooting.

Driver Test: Impressive Accuracy

Carl’s Place hit 20 drives with the Mevo Gen2, carefully tracking results against a rangefinder and yardage markers. Even with a bit of wind, the results impressed.

“Overall, the accuracy for the driver was pretty dang good. We had a lot that were right in range for what we saw in real life compared to what the Mevo was telling us.”

On average, the Mevo Gen2 was within just 2.10% of the measured distance.

“That’s much better than we usually see with drivers when we’re doing our range tests. Very accurate for both the shot shape and shot distance. So far, we’ve been happy with the results we’ve seen with the new Mevo.”

6-Iron Test: “Absolutely Insane” Accuracy

Next up was the 6-iron, and this is where the Mevo Gen2 really shined.

“It’s been off by maybe two yards at the most, and it’s been pretty consistent. One or two yard difference with a lot of shots even showing up as the same as the rangefinder.”

The data backed it up: an average error of just 0.90%.

“Absolutely insane how accurate that is. I don’t think we’ve seen a launch monitor get that close in our testing so far. That’s really exciting to see from this launch monitor, especially at what we’re expecting to be a little bit of a more budget price. I keep saying it, but we’re really excited for this launch monitor.”

Pitching Wedge Test: Dead-On Spin and Carry

Lastly, they put the pitching wedge to the test. Across 20 shots, the Mevo Gen2 stayed incredibly tight to the real distances.

“So far, I’ve been hitting a pretty consistent fade, about 120 to 130. The Mevo Gen2 has been off by no more than a yard or two so far. Overall, I’m happy with the results that the Mevo Gen2 is providing me.”

The numbers backed up that consistency: just 0.98% off on average.

One tester summed it up perfectly:

“Under 1% for both the 6-iron and wedge is just bonkers. I don’t think we’ve ever seen that before. Yeah, that’s insane how good this did in our range testing.”

The Final Word from Carl’s Place

After finishing the session, Carl’s Place left no doubt about where the Mevo Gen2 stands.

“Overall, taking all of our shots into account, the total average yardage off was only 2.6 yards, or 1.33% overall. Based on those numbers and what we saw out of all the launch monitors we’ve tested, I think this one is the best we’ve had so far.”

“Really impressive, especially on the driver. Usually, we see the driver a little bit further off, but here they were still really accurate, close to what we were seeing in real life.”

Why It Matters

The Mevo Gen2 is powered by FlightScope’s patented Fusion Tracking Technology – a unique combination of radar and camera – to provide unmatched accuracy indoors and outdoors.

It measures 18 data parameters for full swing, chipping and putting, and also includes lifetime ownership of an 8 course bundle on E6 Connect with world class venues like Kiawah Island Ocean Course, Torrey Pines South Course, and Valderrama. This is all included in a unit that is portable, subscription-free, and priced within reach.

Carl’s Place summed it up best:

“Accuracy, simulation, portability – it checks all the boxes.”
